Anne Merkuur, Jelske Dijkstra and André Looijenga had all travelled to Belgium last week to participate in several conferences.

In Ghent, Dr Anne Merkuur presented her research 'Competing productive rules and ongoing change: Evidence from Frisian verbal morphology' at the congress 'Unraveling Linguistic Productivity: Insights into usage, processing and variability', organised by Ghent University.

Dr Jelske Dijkstra, project manager of the Mercator Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning (part of the Fryske Akademy), was also in Ghent, but at the annual congress of the European Civil Society Platform for Multilingualism. Mercator has been a member of this European network organisation for many years and was even a board member for a time.

PhD student André Looijenga, MA, was at the annual congress of the Verein für niederdeutsche Sprachforschung by de Koninklijke Academie voor Nederlandse Taal en Letteren (Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature) in Ghent, and then in Leuven he gave another presentation on 'Early modern interactions between Latin and marginal written vernaculars' at the 2nd IJsewijn Lecture & Laboratorium at KU Leuven.
